Next March 2016 ICOPE will discuss the slash and burn practice in agriculture in Indonesia.

Discussion on the practice of slash and burn in agriculture in Indonesia will be one of the highlights of ‎ICOPE 2016. This topic has generated much interest and controversies well beyond the confines of the plantation industry. Various stakeholders representing the government, local authorities, farmers, oil palm growers and civil society groups have been invited as panel members to discuss this practice, which is the source of the recurrent trans-boundary haze occurring in South East Asia. Dr Erik Meijaard will introduce the session by presenting his findings on this topic of interest.
